Time-travelling cop mystery
When a New Orleans ferry packed with soldiers, tourists and children explodes, port authority cop Doug Carlin (Denzel Washington) is called in to investigate. His enquiries quickly uncover a connection between the bomb accelerant and the body of local girl Claire Kuchever (Paula Patton), but events take a strange turn when Doug hears his own voice on Claire's answering machine. He's never met her, so what's going on?

Action specialist Tony Scott weaves an intricate plot made distinct by the inclusion of an elaborate sci-fi central theme. Released in 2006, what could have been a regular action thriller is transformed by the presence of a time machine, parallel worlds and a secret government department with the means to spy on anyone. It's a great combination, and one that happily stays on the right side of believable.

Did you know? At one stage Dr Alexander Denny (Adam Goldberg) says "Looks like I chose the wrong day to quit snorting hash!" This is a reference to a running gag from Airplane!
