In the firing line
The jury is still out for this odd combination - the fictional behind-the-scenes satire of a soap, plus the soap itself (Echo Beach, which stars Jason Donovan and Martine McCutcheon).

Some critics think that the satire Moving Wallpaper - which stars Ben Miller as maverick producer Jonathan Pope (pictured) - is way ahead, amusing and could, frankly, work perfectly well without Echo Beach. Others see Echo Beach as the main attraction, reckon that it's living up to its hype, and that Moving Wallpaper is a bit of extra garnish on top of a first-class soap.

In tonight's Moving Wallpaper, Jonathan's attempts to be more of a team player backfire when he irritates the writers and upsets Gillian, who has recently been mugged. He avoids Susie's suggestions by accompanying Gillian to the police station, but then becomes the victim of some vicious threats.

Worth a look.
