Paradise lost... It's all a bit odd at Meadowlands. You don't want to go there, you know. It might appear to be a suburban paradise, but this everyday modern housing estate is nothing but. A world where nothing is quite what it seems, there are deep resonances of The Village in The Prisoner and a tad of Twin Peaks. This disturbing location (in reality a modern housing estate on the outskirts of Maidstone in Kent) is the new home for David Brogan, played by David Morrissey. Brogan is a man on the run from his past, who hopes that the witness protection scheme will help him and his family build a new life.
New life? Brogan could do with new neighbours, more like. Every one of them seems to have a dark secret and no one's normal. And his wife, Evelyn (Lucy Cohu) is going right off the rails, too. Pleasant enough - in a brooding, disturbing way - this first episode isn't totally on the button and doesn't really explore new areas. Worth a watch, though.
