DD2DG downloads data from Zap2it, an online TV guide.

(if you were using XMLTV with DigiGuide prior to moving to MTI and were happy with it then you might want to fallback to using it again rather than switching to DD2DG)

NOTE: This will not work with myTVInfo because the web sites are gone and so myTVInfo won't be able to update. If you were using myTVInfo and wish to now use DD2DG then please create a UK DigiGuide account. If your old DigiGuide account is suspended then contact miranda@digiguide.com to get it reactivated.

Essentially the steps to use it are as follows;

  • Download and install the latest UK Beta version from the link at the top of this page over the top of your current MYTVINFO DigiGuide (this will replace the non-operational MTI DigiGuide but retain your settings)

  • Download the latest DD2DG (link below)

  • Install DD2DG (next-next on the wizard)

  • Run DD2DG

  • Click "Change lineup" to create an account (which will also require a certificate code to be entered - see below) and change your channels

  • Click "Get listings" to get listings.

  • Exit DD2DGGUI

  • Once things appear to be working well ... re-run DD2DGGUI and click on "Create scheduled task" and modify the schedule run interval to 4 days.

At the end it will start DigiGuide - at which point you should "update" listings or even let DigiGuide get the listings naturally.

Certificate Code:
Zap2It requires new subscribers to their Labs DataDirect service to enter a certificate code. This is supposed to represent the software that the user is using. At the time of writing this guide ... DD2DG does not have a code assigned. So
Read the info about certificates here:
http://docs.tms.tribune.com/tech/tmsdatadirect/zap2it/certificate_codes.html
Read and agree with:
http://labs.zap2it.com/ztvws/ztvws_textblob/1,1066,TMS01-1-subscription_agreement,00.html
Or abort this process if you do not.

Decide if you want to obtain a new certificate by emailing Zap2It or by using one issued to a different application.
If obtaining a new code then the New Developer route is probably your best bet.
A suggested email is:

Could I please have a new certificate code for: http://labs.zap2it.com

I wish to access the data directly. My use is personal and non commercial. I am aware of the agreement: http://labs.zap2it.com/ztvws/ztvws_textblob/1,1066,TMS01-1-subscription_agreement,00.html
and believe my use will remain within its restrictions and obligations.

XMLTV is an application that has been used with DigiGuide before (via XMLTV2DG) - so using their code for now is possibly reasonable ... So go to http://sourceforge.net/projects/xmltv and download. Install or browse within the compressed download file to the file ./xmltv-0.5.42-win32/doc/man/tv_grab_na_dd.txt
Search for the words: “XMLTV certificate code” and extract/copy the certificate code.

FAQ:

  1. Can I get channel icons for the DD2DG downloaded channels?

  2. Potentially - yes - more on this later once things calm down.
  3. What function does the Update button now perform in DG

  4. It makes a connection to the DigiGuide servers to validate your subscription and then it imports updated listings. However, it does not run DD2DG - so it will only be importing listings that have already been fetched by DD2DG. You probably do not need to use this button since DG by default will check for new listings once per day.
However, you do need to run DD2DG periodically - either yourelf or automatically via the Windows Task Scheduler (see above).
